Obituary

Richard D. Laham, of Boston, passed away on August 25, 2014. He was 87 years old.
Richard proudly served our country for over 20 years in the United States Navy. Enlisting in 1944, his naval career took him around the globe and through the conflicts of World War II, Korea and the Cold War. Soon after World War II Richard returned from Japan and was chosen for service to President Harry S. Truman on the Presidential yacht. He then earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer serving in the US Navy Submarine Service. He served on the submarines USS Cutlass, USS Sailfish and USS Manta. Richard took great pride in his Navy career and was most proud of being a sub-mariner. Richard retired from the Navy and joined the private sector including working as an engineer for MIT and Harvard University. He later became a real estate broker in West Roxbury and actively worked into his 86th year.
Richard was the dear and devoted husband of 54 years of Marie Joan (Deban) Laham. Dear father of Richard F. Laham and his wife Lorraine of Walpole, Donna M. Laham and her husband Mitchell Blocker of Texas, Bruce A. Laham and his wife Christina of Stowe and Mark E. Laham and his wife Claudia of Plymouth. He was the loving grandfather of Eliana, Ian and Ava and dear brother of Albert Laham of Canada and the late Frances Laham, Frank Laham Jr., and Theresa Laham.
By Richard’s request, there will be no Funeral Services. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
