Jeffrey R. Poyant, 48, of New Bedford passed away Friday August 22, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Ellen L. (Saunders) Poyant. They had celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on June 24th.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Roland L. and Anita (Perry) Poyant, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Jeff was employed as a media specialist for the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office. He had previously worked for New Bedford Cable Access.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Emerson College. A championship golfer, he had won several fourballs in the area. He was a former member of the Reservation Golf Club, the Allendale Country Club, and the Country Club of New Bedford.
He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog Morgan. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and driving his convertible with the top down.
He is survived by his wife and parents; two daughters, Margaret M. Poyant and Elizabeth A. Poyant; two brothers, Matthew Poyant and his wife Sheri of Cranston, RI and Jaime Poyant and his wife Jessica of Warren, RI; a nephew, Andrew Poyant; his mother-in-law, Anne D. Saunders, M.D. of Fairhaven; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other nieces and nephews and in-laws.
He was the son-in-law of the late Richard T. Saunders.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 11 AM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 3-8 PM. Remembrances may be made to Northeastern Women's Club Soccer (www.northeastern.edu/nuwcs).
