Carey, Paul J. 81, of Needham, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He leaves his best friend and wife of 58 years, Maureen (Sullivan) and his children and their spouses, Judy and Mark McGuinness of Clinton, CT; Patty Carey of Needham; Linda and Pietro Mogianesi of Concord, NC; and Tim and Tina Carey of Fresno, CA. He was also proud Papa of Mark McGuinness and his wife Ashley; Carey, Milan and PJ Mogianesi; and Ryan and Megan Carey. He is survived by his sister Catherine Spozio of Medway; sister-in-laws Claire Carey of Winthrop, Mary Carey of Reston, VA and Eleanor and Bob McLaughlin of Needham. He was brother of the late Bill, George and Edward Carey, and he leaves many cousins, nieces,nephews and friends. Paul was a graduate of St. Sebastian’s (1952), Boston College (B.S. 1956)and Boston State (M.Ed. 1964). He served as a Captain in the Army, taught at Palmer High and Stoneham High, was registrar and professor at Massachusetts Bay Community College, was a local Needham realtor, and was Executive Secretary of the New England Golf Association. He volunteered throughout his life, including as an extraordinary minister serving the ill and elderly at area nursing homes, and at Beth Israel Deaconess-Needham. He was a long-time member of the Needham Golf Club.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. (exit 19b off 128), Needham, Monday at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham, at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 4-8pm. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.
