Obituary

Laconia-------Dorothy (Bean) Lumbra, 94, formerly of 25 Union Avenue, passed away at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
Born in Laconia, N.H. on September 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. and Hazel E. (Curry) Bean. Following the deaths of both parents, when she was 3 years old, she was raised by her late foster parents, Charles and Nellie (Dockham) Monty.
Mrs. Lumbra attended public schools in Gilford and Laconia and graduated from Laconia High School in 1938 and had been employed by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for many years. She married Roger H. Lumbra on April 20, 1961, moving to California in 1962. During her years in California , she worked for a telephone answering service. After retiring from a printing company in California in 1985, she made her home back in Laconia.
During her retirement years, she especially enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading and visiting with family members and friends. Her special pet parrot, Peter, was a constant joy to her . In recent years, she had been active with the Federation for the Blind. Mrs. Lumbra will be remembered by her family and friends as a caring person with a very positive outlook on life.
Mrs. Lumbra is survived by her nephews: Curt Bean and Walter Morin; niece, Christine Lockran; foster nephews, John Monty and Charles Grant and foster nieces, Kay Potfora, Edythe Adams and Grace Endean. Other surviving members include; sister-in-law, Kay Lumbra; nieces, Doreen Lumbra French and Mary Beth Lumbra; nephew, Lawrence Lumbra, Jr.; grandnieces and grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
In addition to her parents and her foster parents, Mrs. Lumbra was predeceased by her husband, Roger H. Lumbra, as well as her brother, the Reverend Doctor Raymond Bean; a sister, Roselin Morin; foster brothers, Lewis and John Monty; foster sisters, Clara Grant and Edith McCrea and nephew, Dennis Bean.
There will be no calling hours in accordance with Mrs. Lumbra’s wishes.
A Graveside Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00AM at the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia. Rev. Dr. Milton Endean of Old Orchard Beach, Maine and husband of foster niece, Grace Endean, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home-Activities Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.
