Maria Jose (Travassos) Moura, 89, of Hudson, died on Saturday, Aug. 16th surrounded by her loving family at Marlboro Hills Healthcare Center. She was the beloved wife of 19 years to the late Norberto Moura who died in 1965.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose Mauricio Travassos and Maria I. (Moura) Travassos. She emigrated to Hudson from Portugal in 1968 with her children and took great pride in the care of their home. In her spare time, Maria enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She had a passion for cooking and always had a special love of animals, especially caring for her pet cats and parakeets. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and always felt fortunate for the love and kindness they shared as a family. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson and longtime member of the former Christ the King Parish in Hudson.
She is survived by her children, Alvaro Moura and his wife Cathy of Hudson, Neli Leandres and her husband Gerry of Hudson, Helder Moura and his wife Isabel of Plainville and Elia Gilles and her husband Michael of Bolton. She also leaves her four loving grandchildren, Nicole Gilles of Hudson, Ryan Gilles of Amesbury, Sonia Moura of Plainville and Kyle Leandres of Hudson along with her nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria Idalina Cabral and Maria Evelina Travassos.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 19th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Monday, Aug. 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
