Yin Kai Mak, 73, of New Bedford died Friday, August 15, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Taishan, China, the son of the late Chan Lam Mak and the late Yu Zi Chen Mak, he resided in New Bedford and Dartmouth for most of his life.
Kai most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for cooking and especially loved trips to the casinos.
He was formerly employed at the China Lantern Restaurant until his retirement. Kai was also the proud owner of the China Palace and Emperor Restaurants during the 1980s-1990s.
He is survived by Nancy Lee Mak; his children, Angela Mak, and Steven Mak and his wife, Alison Mak; his grandson, Arden Mak; his sisters, Shu Ling Mak, Siu Ling Mak, and Bao Ling Mak; his brother-in-law, Henry N. D. Lee; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Yin Koi Mak, Yin Sheng Mak, and his sister, Shirley Man Ling Mak.
His Funeral will begin on Tuesday at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with funeral cortege leaving the funeral home at 9:30 AM for a committal service at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
