Age 86 of Maplewood
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 12, 2014. Preceded in death by husband Paul T. Davis. She was born in 1928 to the late Alvenise & Elbon Shannon in San Francisco, CA. She had 3 sisters and 1 brother (all deceased). She went to school at The Academy of the Presentation and enjoyed dancing, movies and summer trips with her family. She learned to drive in a Model A Ford. As a child she was a first hand witness to the events of WWII and told stories of her memories. Virginia met Paul at a dance for active service members in San Francisco, married, and moved to Minnesota in 1952 and raised 7 children. Virginia worked for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch newspaper in the editorial department for over 25 years, coached softball & volleyball, was a Den Mother for several Cub Scout troops, volunteered time to the East Sider newspaper and the Payne Ave. Harvest Festival parade. She played tennis & golf, enjoyed poetry & working the crossword puzzle and had a tender heart for all animals. She enjoyed trips to San Francisco, Florida and Las Vegas. In recent years she was able to participate in many events that were special to her such as visiting Niagara Falls, Yosemite and Hawaii, attending Dancing With The Stars live, one of Oprah's final shows, seeing Andre Agassi play tennis and attending her grandchildren's many events. Virginia is survived by her children: Laura Wegner (Joe), Linda Davis (Brent), Susan Anderson, Jeffrey Davis (Amy), Gregory Davis (Mary), Bryan Davis, Phillip Davis (Dee Dee), her 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Swinson (William), Nicholas Wegner, Joey Wegner, Charlene Davis, Andrew Anderson (Annie), Guy Davis, Danielle Davis Trushenski (Sam), Geena Davis, LeeAnn Davis, Erin Davis, Bryan Ace Davis (Lanissa), Shannon Davis, Matthew Davis, Griffen Davis, Delaney Davis and 5 great grandchildren. She loved all her many nieces, nephews and their children and loved hearing about all their adventures, with a special place in her heart for those in California. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday (August 19) at 11:00 AM at CHURCH OF ST. PETER, 2600 Margaret Street, North St. Paul with visitation starting at 9:30 AM. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, North St. Paul.
