John C. "Charlie" Flynn Jr.

Mr. John C. "Charlie" Flynn, Jr., age 89, died Tuesday August 12, 2014, at the Winchester Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born in Woburn, John was the devoted son of the late Edith (Murray) and John C. Flynn Sr.

John was raised and educated in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1942. While attending Boston University and then Suffolk University, John decided to join the US Marine Corp, during World War II. Proudly serving from March, 1944 to May, 1946, honorably discharged as a Corporal. Upon returning, John married Ruth A. Woods. They have been married for 64 years and were married on October 15, 1950, in Woburn, at St. Charles Church.

In 1959, John started his career working for GenRad Co. (General Radio) as a Quality Control Engineer. He retired in 1990 after 32 years. In retirement, John and Ruth often traveled. They have been to Europe, Hawaii, and California to name a few destinations. They wintered in Florida for many years, and also had a special place for Lake George, New York. Having gone there for over 25 straight summers with their children. Most of all John enjoyed spending time with his family and his loving grandchildren.

John is survived by his dearly beloved wife Ruth A. (Woods) Flynn. Devoted father of John C. Flynn III and his wife Dorothy (Kelly) of Reading, Christine M. Flynn and her husband James McDonald of Wilmington and the late Patricia A. Skulski. Father in law of William J. Skulski of Kennebunk, ME and his wife Mary Lynn Marnell. Loving grandfather of Maryellen DeVivo, her husband Rob of Waltham, Christopher Skulski of Kennebunkport, ME, Angela K. Flynn, and her husband Peter Cavicchio of Watertown, Laura K. Flynn of Boston and the late Michael R. Skulski. Brother of the late Ethel DeTeso and Edith Burns. Further survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins and by his loyal dogs Samantha & Dancer.

Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. WOBURN, Saturday August 16th at 10 AM. Followed by a funeral service celebrated in North Congregational Church, 896 Main St. Woburn at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 9. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
