Obituary

MEDFORD: Carla C. (Tobey) Goossen died on Thursday, August 7, 2014 unexpectedly at home. She was a lifelong resident of Medford.
Carla was born in Stoneham on October 8, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Roger W. and Beverly C. (Christensen) Tobey of Medford. She was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1970. She had also studied French and foreign languages at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Carla worked as a retail sales manager for many years and was devoted to raising her two children as well as helping raise her grandson.
Carla was every baby’s “Mimi" because she loved the joy that new life brought but there was no child that brought her more joy than her grandson, Darien. She also enjoyed traveling, languages and reading. She took her Facebook friends to a special level and turned virtual relationships into true friendships. Carla had recently been acknowledged for being a fifty year member of the First Baptist Church of Medford.
She is survived by her two children, Gary Goossen, Jr. and her daughter, Anneke Goossen and her grandson, Darien Goossen all of Medford; her siblings, Bruce W. Tobey and his wife, Diane of Medford, Nancy E. Tobey and her husband, David Cogen of Ayer, David A. Tobey and his long time fiancée, Patricia Gallagher of Melrose, Carol E Somers and her husband, Charles of Roslindale, Barbara J. MacCorkle and her husband, Brian of North Andover and was an aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard S. and Jill Tobey.
A Funeral Service for Carla will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in the Beals, Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford at 7 PM. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 4 – 7 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
