Obituary

New Bedford – Kenneth P. De Mello, age 72 of New Bedford, died, unexpectedly, on August 8, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of the late Rita Marie (Morin) De Mello and the son of Hilda (DaCosta) and Manuel Mello. Mr. De Mello was born in New Bedford and, excluding his time in the military, lived his life in this area. He worked as a Machine Operator at Continental Screw Company and as a treatment worker for the City of New Bedford.
He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served some time as a reservist.
He leaves behind his 3 children: Kenneth De Mello, Jr., David De Mello, and Diane (De Mello) Domingos, all of New Bedford; 2 siblings: Steven De Mello of Dartmouth and Beverly Charette of Swansea; as well as 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. De Mello was predeceased by a son, Leonard De Mello, and 4 siblings: Patricia Scott, Robert, George and David De Mello.
Visitation will be Thursday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 7 P.M. Burial with full military honors will be Friday at 11:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations to the family will be greatly appreciated. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth in New Bedford.
