CARMEN EUGENIA GARCIA-RIVERA (GONZÁLEZ ARBONA) 1924-2014 of Natick.
Born in Guayos, Las Villas, Cuba on July 16, 1924 of parents: Isabel Arbona Ruiz (Housewife) and Dr. Eugenio Eduardo González y Pérez de Alejo (Magistrate – Chief Justice of the Courts in Havana)
Moved to Havana around the late 1920’s, graduated Bachelor of Science & Bachelor of Arts from the Instituto del Vedado;
She married Sergio L. Garcia-Rivera (1917-2008) - Electrical & Mechanical Engineer - on April 25, 1943; had three sons, Sergio A., Andy E. and Raul E.
Carmen worked at the Audiencia de La Habana from 1955 to 1961. Following exile from Castro’s communist regime in 1961, immigrated to Massachusetts, and lived in Natick since 1967.
She worked at the John Hancock Insurance Co from 1962 until her retirement in 1984. Soon after the death of her husband, Sergio, she suffered several strokes and syncopes, which eventually led to her passing in Union City, NJ, on Thursday August 7, 2014, shortly after celebrating her 90th birthday, and receiving the Last Rites by the local Catholic priest.
A loving wife, devoted daughter, and mother, she is survived by her brother Dr. Eugenio E Gonzalez, DDS (retired dentist), and sister in law Angela Gonzalez and their family; also her three sons, Sergio and her grandsons David and Alex; Andy, his wife Pamela and her grandsons Danny and Eli, and great-grandson Landon; and Raul, his wife Paula and her grandson Chris.
A visitation will be held in the John Everett Funeral Home, 4 Park St, at Natick Common on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 4:00-8:00PM.
A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday, August 12th at 11:00AM and burial with her husband in St. Patrick Cemetery in Natick immediately following.
