Philip Maurice Merten passed away after a short illness at the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, August 4, 2014.
Phil, who had just celebrated his 81st birthday, was the youngest son of Bernard B. and Mary K. (White) Merten. He is the brother of Bernard H. and his wife Joan P. Merten of E. Weymouth, Mary E. and her husband Fred McCoy of Valdosta, GA and M. Joseph Merten of S. Weymouth. He also leaves 13 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews, 8 great great nieces and nephews, and a close family friend, Nick Guan. Phil was loved by many cousins and dear friends. He is predeceased by his brothers, John F. and Robert E. Merten.
Phil was a lifelong resident of Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1951. He was a salesman for Stride Rite Shoe Company in Boston for many years before working for Brady Enterprises in Weymouth.
The Funeral will be from the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Saturday, August 9 at 8:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Albert the Great Church, 1140 Washington St., Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be on Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
