Obituary

Hay, Mary Margaret (Walsh) 88, formerly of Needham and Medfield, died Wednesday, July 30. Beloved wife of Donald A. Hay for 63 years who died a year ago April, she leaves a son Robert A. Hay of Dudley; 3 daughters Nancy Hay of Milford, Susan Hay Pease of Bristol, RI, Sally Hay Reppucci of Peoria, AZ, a loving cousin Matthew A. Gerrior of Pacific Grove, CA and five grandchildren.

She was born in Needham, the daughter of the late Patrick and Annie (Walsh) Walsh and lived in Medfield, Bristol, NH and most recently Charlton for the past 8 years. Mrs. Hay graduated from Needham High School in 1943 and Mass Bay Community College in 1990.

She was active in the Massachusetts League of Women Voters and taught tennis in Medfield for many years in support of the Hannah Adams Scholarship Fund. She also served as trustee of the Medfield Public Library, and tutored at both the High School and Junior High School levels.

Mary was an avid reader, tennis player, skier, golfer and cook. She was a member of the Silver Streaks Ski Club at Waterville Valley. In 1991, she was the New England Over 60 champion for alpine ski racing, and went on to compete at the NASTAR National Championships in Snowbird, UT. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete in multiple sports activities but most of all she enjoyed being a wife and mother.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham,Wednesday August 6 from 4-8pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Funeral service and interment private.
