Obituary

Warren F. French, of Braintree formerly of Brockton, died on July 20th at the age of 100. Born in Brockton, son of the late Fred and Lillie (Farrar) French. Brother to Rachel F. Packard and Fredrick French. Born on Samuel Ave., Warren moved to Woodside Ave when he was 4 where he lived for 96 years. Holding four U.S. patents in the machine tool trade, Warren was Vice President of William H. Field Co. and was a registered professional mechanical engineer and a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. As a member of the American Society for Metals, he was engaged in solving the problem of the failure of the American tank track pins that were vulnerable to the silica sands of the African desert. Also during World War II, he worked at MIT as part of the Manhattan project in heavy water. Warren was a strong believer in vocational education with close ties to Southeastern Technical School in South Easton MA He will be missed by many, including his friends at Freda’s Restaurant. All services and burial are private.
