Obituary

Theresa M. Scanlon, 92 of Methuen passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014. Theresa was born on September 13, 1921 in Methuen to the late Walter J. and Rose V. Scanlon. She attended St. Laurence O’Toole Grammar School and graduated St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1939. She was also a graduate of McIntosh Business School, class of 1940. From 1940-1984 she was the office manager for the Superintendent of the Methuen Public Schools. Theresa was a member of the Court of St. James #436, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America of Haverhill, a member of St. Theresa Court #903. She was a member of St. Mary’s High School Alumni Association, The Rainbow Club, a Communicant of both St. Theresa’s Church and St. Monica’s Church, a member of Legion of Mary Auxiliary and a member of the Methuen Public Schools Retiree Association.

Theresa had many hobbies including bowling, golfing, and playing bingo and 45’s. She loved traveling, especially to Ireland and Rome. Theresa was a devout Catholic who's favorite quote to friends and family was "Keep the Faith". She also loved Irish heritage, never missing the annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon held at the Hibernian Club in Lawrence, Ma.

Theresa was the devoted sister of Walter J. Scanlon Jr. and his wife Sylvia of Lawrence. She was the dear cousin of Frances Smith of Methuen. She was the loving aunt of Patrick Scanlon and his wife Maryann of Methuen, Daniel Scanlon of Lawrence, Lorene Scanlon of Salem, Ma., Kathleen Canzano and her husband Joseph of Salisbury and the late Sharon Scanlon of Lawrence. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephew; Andrew Scanlon, Elizabeth Storm and her husband Travis, and Allyson Scanlon.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 1, 2014 at St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nevins Nursing Home, 10 Ingalls Court Methuen, MA 01844 or to the Lazarus House, PO Box 408 Lawrence, MA 01842.
