Obituary

Patricia E. (Polhamus) Smalley
Bolton (formerly of Hudson) – Patricia E. (Polhamus) Smalley, 71, passed away after a long period of declining health. She was born in Middleboro, the youngest of three children born to Roland F. and Amy E. (Kelley) Polhamus. She was raised and educated in Sudbury, MA, where she met her husband of 56 years, Robert Smalley.
Along with her husband, Pat leaves four children: Carol Flionis and her husband Mark of Holden; Robert Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Worcester; James Smalley of Fitchburg and Sharon Santello and her husband, Paul of Berlin. Pat leaves 13 grandchildren: Nicholas, Charlotte, Robert III, Stephanie, Adam, Krystal, Kristopher, Heather, Courtney, Kyle, Justin, Alicia and Faith as well as 13 great grandchildren. Pat also leaves her siblings, Burt Kelley of Mystic, CT and Nancy Venable of Gainesville, TN along with three nieces that were like daughters to her, Anita Courtemanche, Diana Lemieux and Theresa York.
Pat and Bob moved with their four children to Hudson in 1969 so she could be closer to her parents. After raising her children, Pat worked in retail for many years at the former Arthur’s of Hudson and Marshall’s of Marlboro, where she developed many long lasting friendships. Pat enjoyed antiquing and trips to the casinos with her friends. She had a creative nature and during different times in her life, enjoyed sewing, painting, writing and reinventing antiques. Most of all, however, Pat enjoyed celebratory occasions where she could revel in the accomplishments of her family and enjoy a great piece of cake!
Over the years, Pat enjoyed the friendships of many four-legged friends. Her enduring love for animals of all types was a source of happiness throughout her life. Those wishing to make donations in her name can do so to a local animal shelter or rescue league.
