Frances M. “Sis” Mathews, age 89, of Wayland, formerly of South Yarmouth and Natick, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family on Sunday morning, July 27, 2014.
Born on October 18, 1924 in Natick, Massachusetts, she was the loving daughter of the late Charles L. and Rosanna (Morris) Mathews. She was the sister of Donald R. Mathews and his wife Janet of South Yarmouth, and the late Charles L. Jr., Wallace E., and Arthur L. Mathews.
Sis graduated in 1942 from Natick High School and was a retired social worker with the Massachusetts Department of Welfare, where she worked for 44 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, yard sales, and her home on Cape Cod. Sis was an avid Red Sox fan, but the loves of her life were her many nieces and nephews, their families, and her own family of pets.
She was the treasured Aunt of Cindy and David Yancey of Natick; Christopher Mathews and Joanne Christopher of Westborough; Teddy and Judy Mathews of Pomfret, CT; Daniel Mathews and Beth Blake of Natick; Michelle Mathews of Ashland; Susan and Dominic Pasarro of Winthrop; Timothy and Jennifer Mathews of Mattapoisett; Michael and Suzanne Mathews of West Yarmouth; Jill and David Hedin of South Yarmouth; and the late Charlene Mathews. She is also survived by 17 grandnieces and nephews, and a great-grandniece.
Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Friday, Aug. 1st at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick at 10:00AM. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Sis’ life during visiting hours on Thursday, July 31st from 4-7 PM. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road #400, Waltham, MA 02451.
