Obituary

Raymond Edwin Barstow, 86, of Worcester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on July 25, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Roby) Barstow for 56 years. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Born May 6, 1928, he was the dear son of the late Lawrence W. Barstow, Sr. and Lillian Barstow. He was raised and educated in Walpole MA. He previously lived in West Boylston, Massachusetts, but resided for much of his life in Brattleboro, Vermont, and Hinsdale, New Hampshire.
Raymond was a proud veteran serving in the United States Army having achieved the rank of Private First Class. He was stationed in Alaska, providing communications during the Korean War. Following the war, he learned the linotype trade under the GI Bill. He was employed as a linotypist at the Book Press and other book printing companies in Brattleboro, VT for most of his career.
In addition to working and taking care of his family, he enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, staying fit and shopping with his wife. He was a kind and gentle man with a strong will, a quiet confidence and a wonderful sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed making people laugh, playing cribbage and watching the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriot’s whenever he could.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves behind his two daughters: Brenda L. Cahill and her husband, Richard Cahill, of Palm Coast, Florida; Cheryl A. Vaiknoras and her husband, James M. Vaiknoras, of Wakefield, Massachusetts; two brothers: Roger Barstow of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Roy Barstow and his wife, Mary Barstow, of Teaticket, Massachusetts; and his sister: Rosalyn Dix of Plainville, Massachusetts; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Lawrence “Sonny” W. Barstow, Jr., Ralph Barstow, Richard “Dick” Barstow and Robert “Bob” Barstow.
