Obituary

Arlene Roberts Delorey, 81, of Chester, NH passed away at the Community Hospice House of Merrimack, NH on July 26, 2014. She was born on March 26, 1933, a daughter of Harry W. and Cora (Collins) Roberts. Arlene was among the 4th generation of lifelong Chester residents to reside on “Bell Hill”. She served as an assistant aircraft spotter during World War II. Arlene served as the treasurer for the Chester Congregational Church for many years. She also held membership in the Fortnightly Club, the Ladies Social Circle and the Chester Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Arlene was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Arlene was the Librarian in Chester for 11 years and was instrumental in moving the library to its current location from the Stevens Memorial Hall. She then served as a Librarian in Londonderry for 23 years before retiring in 2009. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, gardening and reading.
Arlene married her husband, Alfred F. Delorey in September 1953 who predeceased her on August 9, 2009. Family members include; her daughter, Carolyn Lighthall and her husband John of Chester; her son, Alan Delorey of Lake Wales, FL; her grandchildren, James Greene and his wife Sharon of Manchester, NH, and Janice Moul of Concord, NH; three great grandchildren, Krissy of Manchester, and Derek and Laryssa of Concord; as well as many beloved extended family members.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 2:00pm in the Great Hill Cemetery, Rt. 121A, Chester . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Public Library, PO Box 277, Chester, NH 03036. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
