Obituary

Daniel Arthur Mahoney, 71, of Duxbury, MA passed away peacefully on July 24, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. The son of the late Daniel A. Mahoney and the late Orvetta T. Mahoney, Mr. Mahoney was born on January 30, 1943 in Queens, NY. He was the loving brother to Michael K. Mahoney of Huntington, NY and Maureen L. Mahoney of Stuart, FL. Dan was the beloved husband of Suzanne O’Malley Mahoney and is survived by his son, Daniel P. Mahoney of Encinitas, CA and his daughter Laura Mahoney Melton and her husband, Robert S. Melton II of Duxbury, MA. He was also the beloved “Big Guy” to his grand-children Robbie and Maggie Grace Melton. Mr. Mahoney is predeceased by his father, mother, and brother Kevin O. Mahoney. As a boy, Dan achieved distinction as an Eagle Scout and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He served in the United States Navy Submarine Division for six years where he specialized in nuclear propulsion systems of fleet ballistic submarines. Dan was an instructor at Combustion Engineering’s Nuclear Reactor Prototype in CT. He also servedtwo patrols on The USS Thomas Jefferson. Following his naval career, Dan worked in sales & marketing focusing on the design of commercial & industrial HVAC systems. A resident of Duxbury, MA since 1979, Dan was employed by RSM Distributors as President, Balco Inc. as VP of Sales and JM Coull Inc. as Executive VP. Mr. Mahoney retired in 2006. His passions included spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as his many friends and their families. He was an avid golfer, skier, boater, fisherman, handy-man, and carpenter. Dan was best known for his kind heart, generosity andadventuresome spirit. The Mahoney Family are especiallygrateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at Beth Israel DeaconessMedical Center for providing impeccable care during Dan’s illness.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 28th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at The Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Rt. 106, Kingston. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Duxbury, on Tuesday July 29th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Dr. Robin Joyce Leukemia & Lymphoma Fund, Office of Development, 330 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.
