James Joseph Hamrock, age 84, of Canton, passed away in Cary, NC on July 24, 2014. Born and raised in Dorchester, Jim graduated from Boston College and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a retired Chief of Housing Programs for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Jim became an avid golfer and a member of Wampatuck Country Club. When he wasn’t on the links, he enjoyed reading, the history channel, fishing, and watching sporting events of all kinds, especially if his children or grandchildren were playing. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sheila C (Moore), and his son, Stephen M. Hamrock. Jim is survived by his children, Cecelia Kennedy (John) of NJ, Deidre Moritz (Bob) of Canton, David Hamrock of Georgia, Judy Boyle (Pat) of NC and Bill Hamrock (Donna) of Canton. “Pooch” also leaves his 12 grandchildren; Kelly, Michael, Kristin, Kevin, Sean, Joseph, Patrick, Thomas, Stephen, Kate, Jimmy and Jenna, as well as his brother, Bill Hamrock and his sisters-in-law Mary Dunbar Hamrock and Jean Moore, and brother-in-law Joe Lipscomb. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life at Brook Meadow Country Club 100 Everendon Rd Canton Sunday from 4 to 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard Majella Church 1860 Washington St. Canton Monday morning at 11 am. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the mass Monday morning from 10 to 11 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Stephen M. Hamrock Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Ann Murray/Guidance dept, Canton High School, Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
