Gilford-----Joan B. Veazey, 85, of 18 Lockes Hill Road, died peacefully, Saturday, July 19, 2014. She was the widow of William H. Veazey.
Joan was born on October 14, 1928 in Nashua, N.H. She was the daughter of Charles Prescott Boyd and his wife Violet.
Joan was very active in the community. She was a member of the Lakes Region General Hospital Board of Directors, the Laconia School Board, Laconia Country Club, Colby- Sawyer College Alumni and associate member of the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club. Joan was passionate about local politics, current events and education.
Joan volunteered for years at the Gilford Elementary School and was an active member of the Gilford Community Church.
Some of Joan’s favorite memories were spending time on Lake Winnipesaukee with friends and family. Joan was happiest when her family, friends and beloved pets filled her home and when she was cheering her grandchildren on at various sporting events, especially basketball.
Survivors include a son, Charles Boyd Veazey, and his wife, Joanna, of Gilford; a daughter, Susanne Veazey, of Laconia; six grandchildren, Liza Epstein and her husband, Jason, Hannah Colby, Nicholas Hoffman-Veazey, Christopher Veazey, Connor Veazey and Sarah Veazey and two great grandchildren, Tyler Epstein and Beckett Epstein and many, many dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 2:00PM at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, N.H.
Burial will be held in the Raymond C. Wixson Memorial Garden, Potter Hill Road, Gilford at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the William H. and Joan B. Veazey Scholarship Fund c/o Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312.
