Obituary

Edward R. Rouette, 71, of Woonsocket died Sunday morning at home surrounded by his family after a valiant two year battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Georgette L. (Lanctot) Rouette. They were married on June 4, 1966.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Royal and Annie (Bootland) Rouette. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Rouette served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a medical corpsman with the 29th Evacuation Hospital Unit based out of Fort Devens, MA.
Following his service to his county Ed was employed at Rochambeau Worsted Mill for over 30 years. He also worked for the Woonsocket Education Department as a custodian at Citizen’s Memorial school for 4 years; it was his favorite job as Ed loved working with the teachers and students at the school.
Ed’s favorite pastime was being an avid NASCAR fan. He was a longtime communicant of St. Agatha’s Parish. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 48 years he is survived by a son Gary E. Rouette and a daughter Roxanne M. Ackley and two grandchildren Danielle Ackley and Kyle Rouette all of Mapleville. He was the brother of Marion Christie and her husband, Joseph, of North Smithfield and Carol Federico and her husband, Russ, of Litchfield, NH. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agatha Church, Joffre Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm.
