Eva L. Merrill (Rose) a lifelong Dighton resident passed away peacefully on Saturday July 19, 2014 at Marion Manor in Taunton. Mrs. Merrill was 87 years old. She was the wife of the late Lorenzo “Rocky” Merrill. Eva was the loving mother of Robert H. Merrill and his wife Brenda of Taunton and Sylvia Wetherell and her husband William of Taunton. She was a proud grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 9. Mrs. Merrill was also survived by her brother Anthony Rose of Taunton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 6 siblings.
Eva was born on May 29, 1927 in Dighton to her parents the late Joseph F. and Georgina M. Rose (Mattos). She was educated in Dighton schools and worked as a packager for Swank’s Packaging Co. and later became as successful and dedicated homemaker. Mrs. Merrill enjoyed volunteering for the Citizens for Citizens Food Pantry and for St. Vincent DePaul. The couple also enjoyed camping together. She was a member of the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association and loved traveling with her son, Bob, to Foxwoods and Twin River Casino. Eva will be loved and missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday July 23rd from 6-8pm at Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. (off Tremont St/Rte. 140) Taunton, MA (508)821-7771. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday July 24th at 10am at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church 499 Spring St. Dighton, MA. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
