Obituary

South Dartmouth – Arthur V Bettencourt of South Dartmouth died Tuesday
July 15, 2014 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. Born in Dartmouth, he was
the son of the late Annie (Mello) and Joseph V. Bettencourt Sr. He was
formerly employed as a painter with the IUPAT DC 35 painters union and
served as a paratrooper for the U.S. Army during WWll. He will be
remembered as a truly kind and selfless man who dedicated himself to
helping those he was closest to in their times of need. He had a fond
appreciation of nature, enjoyed gardening and his many cats. Even after
retirement he enjoyed spending his time restoring the 133 year old home
that he grew up in.

He is survived by his son: Morgan Demers and daughter-in-law Erin
Demers of Milton, Vermont, 2 grandchildren: Rowan and Huxley Demers,
his brother Ernest Bettencourt of Wisconsin, as well as several nieces
and nephews. He is also survived by Carla Niro, Galen Demers and the
late Crispin Demers whom he thought of as his children. Arthur was the
brother of the late Joseph, Walter, and Clarence Bettencourt and Mary
Sarmento.

His funeral will be Saturday, July 19 beginning in the funeral home at 7:45
A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s
Church in Dartmouth at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery.
Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Friday from 5 –
7 P.M. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend. Arrangements
placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New
Bedford.
