Obituary

Laconia--Warren E. “Pete” Levy, 90, of Laconia, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith. He was predeceased by his mother, Sophie B. Sirois, his father, Alexander O. Levy, Sr., his sister, Mary E. Sanders, and his wife, Mabel K. Levy. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Isabella E. Levy.

Warren was born on February 20, 1924 in New York City, NY, and lived there before moving to NJ in 1940. He was employed as a Communications Management Specialist by the US Army Communications Systems Agency at Fort Monmouth, NJ, and travelled to Japan, Korea, Germany, and Panama, and many sites within the United States on assignments for the Army. Warren received numerous awards and recognition for innovative solutions and outstanding performance during his 30 year career. He retired in 1980 and moved from NJ to Laconia that same year.

“Pete” was best known for his accordion playing and he enjoyed performing and making people happy through music. His first instrument was the harmonica that his mother taught him to play. He purchased his first accordion in January of 1940, shortly before his 16th birthday. Pete never read music; his talent was playing “by ear”. Once he heard a song, he could replicate it after a few tries. Over his lifetime, Pete delighted in playing his vast repertoire of tunes for family and friends.

After meeting his dear friend Ginny, Pete became an active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church and was made an honorary member of the Ladies Guild there. He eagerly participated in every activity; he could be seen helping at Christmas bazaars, bake sales, and spaghetti suppers. Pete was also a volunteer at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry for many years.

Surviving are his loving daughters, Bridget Trapanese of New Monmouth, NJ and Theresa Levy of Middletown, NJ; his grandson, Gregory Trapanese, also of New Monmouth, NJ; his beloved companion and dear friend, Virginia Mc Dermott, and Virginia’s son, Donald. He also is survived by his brother, Alexander O. Levy, Jr., of Meredith; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Frank Harwood, of Middletown, NJ; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
