Obituary

Ruth Dolores (Maffeo) Gugliotti, 82 years, of Brockton, died April 18, 2014 on Good Friday at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a long battle with many illness’s and a handicap that kept her homebound since 1994; where she was cared for by her son. She was the wife of the late Robert John Gugliotti, Sr. Ruth was born in East Boston at home on 59 Gove Street; she was a first generation Italian American. The family moved to Roslindale, Everett and finally settling in Somerville on Jackson Road. Ruth was the daughter of the late Alfonso John and Marietta Antonietta. (Rosa) Maffeo. Following her graduation from Everett High School Class of 1950, Ruth went on to nurses training at Mass General Hospital. She continued to work at Mass General and later for Boston City, Jewish Memorial and the former Holy Ghost Hospitals. She finished her nursing career as a private care nurse. Ruth went above and beyond to be a devoted wife and mother; she always said it was her best and most joyous job in her life. In her retirement she enjoyed cooking and baking Italian food, reading, praying, music, crocheting for friends, family and the church, caring for the elderly in her home or theirs that were in transition from hospital to nursing home; she did this for 6 years. She was an award winning Avon salesperson for 13 years. Ruth was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis. She had been a resident of Brockton since 1975.
She is survived by her son Robert John Gugliotti, II (RJ) of Brockton; a stepson John Anthony Gugliotti of PA; her siblings Dorothy Muollo of Revere; Rose Marie Maffeo of Knoxville, TN; Deanna Christina MacDonald of Somerville and Marietta Anotonietta Lopshire of Knoxville, TN, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved boxer Marco Polo Maffeo. She was the step mother of the late Robert John Gugliotti, Jr. and a sister of the late John Alfonso Maffeo, Celia Mary (Maffeo) Shoemaker, Pasquale Anthony Maffeo, Rudolfo Maffeo, Alfonso John Maffeo, Jr. and Rudolph Dante Maffeo.
A funeral mass will be held in St. Anthony’s Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere, MA on Saturday August 30, 2014 at 1:30pm.
