Howard D. Dion, age 58, of Mansfield passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Becky R. (Mullinix) Dion, to whom he was wed on May 3, 1986.
Born in Boston, MA on June 21, 1956, he was a loving son of Philip F. Dion, Sr. of Plymouth and the late Helen S. (Yarosh) Dion.
Howard grew up in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools.
For the past 2 years, Mr. Dion worked for the Teachers Driving Academy, serving as a driving instructor helping teenagers achieve their goal to receive their drivers license. A resident of Mansfield for the past 18 years, he had previously lived in Norwood and West Roxbury. Howard was a member of the Mansfield Elks Lodge #2633 for six years and served many of those years as a member of the Board of Trustees.
A true New England sports fan, Howard’s favorite pastime was playing golf and for three years he volunteered his assistance at the Deutsche Bank Championship held at the TPC in Norton.
Howard loved spending time with his family and friends, and was exceptionally devoted to his father. He enjoyed hanging out at the fire pit at his home, and will always be remembered for the best bear hugs in the world, his famous jello shots and the manner in which he always smelled so good.
In addition to his beloved wife and loving father, he is survived by his devoted children; Joshua H. Dion and Alexandra Kelsi Dion both of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Philip F. Dion, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Athol, Andrea L. Smythe and her husband Richard of Plymouth and Christine M. Spillers and her husband Edward of Hopedale.
