Obituary

Douglas D. Porrell, age 69, of Natick and formerly of Wayland, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, surrounded by his family after a brief hospitalization.

Born in Dorchester, son of the late Douglas Porrell, and Lucy (Cannon) Porrell. He grew up in Wayland as a young boy. He was a graduate of Wayland High School and received his Associate Degree from Northeastern University and he was also a member of the National Guard. Growing up, Doug always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and helping them. In his younger days, Doug spent a great deal of time playing hockey and baseball. Sports remained a passion throughout his life. In his adult life sports were always a favorite whether it was golfing, candle pin bowling or watching sports. He was an avid Patriots fan. What he cherished most was time spent with his family, especially spending Christmas together. He will be remembered for his generosity and kind heartedness. Doug loved nothing more than to help those in need. He was also a member of the Natick Lodge of Elks and the Natick branch of the American Legion.
He was the devoted father of Douglas Porrell, Jr. of Natick and Elise Kumar and her husband Vikas of Sudbury, MA. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Keya Kumar and Rohan Kumar along with his siblings David Porrell of Ovid, MI, Joe Porrell of Wayland, MA, Alice Riportella of Pepperell, MA and Jim Porrell of Natick, MA. He is predeceased by his brother Jerry Porrell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 16th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St, at Natick Common. A Funeral Mass will be held from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home at 9 AM on Thursday, July 17th with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM at Saint Patrick Church, 44 East Central St., Natick, MA. Interment will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Commonwealth Road (Rt. 30), Cochituate, MA.
