New Bedford – Maria C. Linhares, age 79 of New Bedford, died at St. Luke’s Hospital on July 12, 2014. She was the loving wife of Jose G. Linhares and the daughter of Maria (Dos Anjos) and Antonio B. Couto. Mrs. Linhares was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Açores, moved to this country in 1976 and worked as an Inspector at Cliftex Corporation until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Jose, of New Bedford; 3 children: David J. Linhares of Fall River, Daniel C. Linhares of New Bedford, and Evangelina Melo of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren: Jesse Linhares and Steve Linhares, both of Fall River, and Shawn, Cory and Kayla Melo, all of New Bedford; 2 great grandchildren: Jayla and Lelan Linhares; 3 siblings: Hilda Sousa of New Bedford, Delores Couto of Sao Miguel, Açores, and Antonio Couto of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Maria is predeceased by 3 siblings: Manuel Couto, Maria Dos Anjos Carreiro and Norbina Costa.
Her funeral will be Wednesday morning beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
