Maureen U. Scully (Grady) a resident of Raynham since 1957 passed away peacefully on the evening of July 12, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Scully was 81. Maureen was the loving wife of the late John W. Scully. She is survived by her children; Susan Ventura and her husband Steven of Taunton, Jane Scully of Raynham, John W. Scully, Jr. and his wife Denise of Mississippi and Paula Roderick and her husband Gary of Norton. Mrs. Scully was the beloved grandmother of Katie Walker, John D. Scully, Kevin Goslin, Eryn Barefoot, Nathan Ventura, Maria Ventura and Kimberly Roderick. Proudly, Maureen and her late husband recently became great grandparents to Hayes Michael Walker. She was the sister of Dr. Charles Grady of Taunton, Paul Grady of Lakeville and her late brothers Daniel Grady and Michael Grady.

Maureen was born on May 16, 1933 in Brockton, the only daughter of the late Charles J. and Una (Kelleher) Grady. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Taunton, serving as the Senior Class President. Later she would go on to work for the New England Telephone Company as an Operator. Mrs. Scully married the love of her life, John in 1952 and they shared the happiest of marriages. They enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. The couple loved to take Canal Cruises on the Cape Cod Canal and also did quite a bit of boating on their vessel, which Maureen’s husband named after her; “The Mojestic”.

Mrs. Scully will be remembered as “the life of the party” and for her enthusiastic decorating around the holidays. She enjoyed gardening and shopping at bargain and thrift stores. What most defined her was her life’s work as a hardworking homemaker and raising her family. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her; especially her family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 16th from 9-10:30am at the Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. Taunton, MA (off Tremont St/Rte 140) 508-821-7771. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 10:30am following the visitation. Maureen will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
