Obituary

Victor A. Poirier Jr. 89 of Mendon Rd. died Monday, July 7, 2014 in the Friendly Home. He was the husband of the late Lillian A. (DeMello) Poirier. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Victor A. and Evelyn (Snow) Poirier. Victor was a WWII Navy Veteran. He worked as a machinist and tool maker for Taft Pierce and Miller Engineering retiring in 1988. Victor was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Kights of Columbus, and was a member of the VFW in Forestdale.

Victor was also a historian collecting information on the life, priesthood, and time in service as a bishop for Bishop Louis E. Gelineau.

He is survived by his son Victor A. Poirier III of Middleboro, MA, a granddaughter Ashiya Cabbage of Franklin and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his son Ronald E. Poirier, and was the brother of the late Beatrice Gilmain, and Pearl Poirier.

His funeral with visitation will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Church, 63 Church St, Slatersville, RI. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Slatersville.
