Joanne Mary Duffy, a 30 year resident of Somerville and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Somerville Hospital. She was 53 years old.
Joanne was born in Chelsea on May 29, 1961, a daughter of John R. Duffy and Dorothy M. (McCormick) Duffy. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Newton Catholic High School in Newton in 1980. Joanne owned and operated her own cleaning business for many years. She enjoyed walking the beach and took special interest in the elderly and was always eager to help any senior citizen in need of help.
Joanne is the beloved daughter of John R. "Jack" Duffy and the late Dorothy M. "Dotty" (McCormick) Duffy of Charlestown. She is the devoted sister of Ann Marie Duffy-Keane of South Boston, John M. Duffy of Winthrop, Patty McLean of Braintree and Peggy Ann Duffy-Shea of Charlestown. She is the loving aunt to 10 nieces and nephews and 2 great-nieces. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joanne's Funeral on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
