Obituary

Mary J. (Murray) Nash, age 98, of Brockton, died July 1, 2014. She was the wife of the late Edward F. Nash. Born in Braintree, and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James A. and Etta (Meade) Murray. Mary graduated from Brockton High School, class of 1934 and was a graduate of Lasell College. She interned as a dietician at the Cambridge Hospital. She was employed as a home economist by Ocean Spray at the original office in South Hanson. She developed recipes using cranberry products; her illustrated press releases were featured in newspapers throughout the country. She was a published freelance writer specializing in travel subjects. Mary and her husband traveled extensively and were known for their color slide travel programs at libraries, churches and schools. She was a former trustee of the Brockton Historical Society, a charter member of the Brockton Library Foundation, D.W. Field Park Association, Lasell Alumni Association and Charity Guild. In earlier years, she served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was an English History buff, played jazz piano, and was interested in all of the arts.
Mary leaves a son Peter M. Nash of Brockton as well as several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday, July 11, from 10-11am followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to the National Headache Foundation, 820 N. Orleans, Suite 411, Chicago, IL 60610-3132.
