Obituary

Worcester – Dorothy M. (Atchue) Dufresne Nicholson, 92, of Worcester, died on Monday, June 30th in the Golden Living Center – Hermitage after an illness.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard “Ricky” Dufresne Sr. and his wife Carol of Worcester; two step sons, Carl Nicholson and his wife Beverly and Richard Nicholson and his wife Debbie; a daughter in law, Jacqueline Dufresne; 2 brothers, Garfield Atchue and Alden Atchue; a sister, Barbara Comeau; 8 grandchildren, Kristen, Marc, Joelle, Nicole, Ricky Jr., Cheryl, Barbara Jean and Ricky; 10 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was born in North Grafton, daughter of the late, Herbert and Doris (Emino) Atchue.

Mrs. Nicholson is predeceased by her husband, Carl Nicholson; a son Edward “Duke” Dufresne; 3 brothers, Wallace, Israel “Bud” and Herbert Atchue; 2 sisters, Myrtle Strand and Evelyn Blanchard. Dorothy is a graduate of Grafton High School and worked for 40 years at the former Rexnord Chain Company before retiring in 1984.

She enjoyed many things in her life however, some of her favorite things were swimming, taking trips to Hampton Beach and Old Orchard Beach, going to Vermont in the winter time, cooking for her family and friends, playing cards and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Hermitage Nursing Home, her nurse Tom Bain and her hospice caregiver Jackie Champagne for the exceptional care that was given to Dorothy.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 3rd from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond Street with a mass at 11am in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main Street. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum will follow. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 in the funeral home before the mass. Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Church “Family Center Campaign” 1222 Main Street Worcester, MA 01603.
