METHUEN - Sr. Irene Rivard, 94 passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, MA.
Born in Lewiston, Maine on June 1, 1920, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Anna (Dumont) Rivard. Sr. Irene became a member of the Presentation of Mary Sisters of the Methuen Province on July 2, 1947 taking her religious name Sister Cecile-Anna. After her religious profession, Sister taught elementary classes in schools of Caribou, Augusta, Lisbon, and Westbrook, Maine. She also served as superior and principal from 1963 to 1994. Sister taught mathematics and French at Presentation of Mary Academy School for girls in Methuen. In 1994, due to illness, she came to live at Saint Claire Residence.
Sister Irene is survived by a nephew, Raymond Rivard, and a niece, Tina Favreau.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 PM - 5 PM at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary, 209 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of the Presentation of Mary with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery also in Methuen.
