Robert C. Fluet

CHICOPEE – Robert C. Fluet, 78, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 23, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Springfield, Vermont on April 18, 1936, a beloved son of the late Lawrence J. and Doris M. (Schwarzenberg) Fluet. He was raised in Methuen, Massachusetts and lived there for many years before moving to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1977. Robert served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and attained the rank of Airman Third Class. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist 6th Class. With his combined service in the United States Air Force and the United States Army, he retired with over 16 years of active duty to his country. Following his military service, he was employed at Westover Air Force Base as a Civilian Radar Technician. He was a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 in Chicopee before joining Chapter 68 in Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Maureen (McNab) Fluet. They were married on August 19, 1958 at Saint Francis Church in Shefford County of Bedfordshire, England and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his four loving children, Theresa M. Kenfield and her husband, Edward, of Chicopee, Robert C. Fluet, II and his wife, Maryellen, of Middlesex, NC, Ann Fluet and her husband, Maurice Marcil, of Chicopee and Heather Caron and her husband, Daniel, of Colorado Springs, CO; his 11 cherished grandchildren, Dawn Lyons, Tabitha Lyons, Robert C. Fluet, III, Ryan Fluet, Jared Fluet, Ashley Fluet, Christina Close, Keehan Close, Sierra Close, Kimberly Caron and Megan Caron; his five cherished great-grandchildren, Makenzie Whitley, Reagan Fluet, Anthony Fluet, Destiny Dematteo, and Kara Caron; his dear sisters and brother, Mary B. Perrault of Andover, MA, Ronald Fluet of Danvers, MA and Ann McGibbon and her husband, Al, of Lake Winnipesaukee, NH; and several dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Fluet and McNab families. A Committal Service with US Army Military Honors will be held at on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 2 p.m.in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
