Alice "Rita" (Porter) DeForest, 70, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, June 19th, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, following a brief illness.
She was born on February 6, 1944 in Schenectady, New York, daughter of the late Leo and Alice (Proctor) Porter. Rita was educated in the local schools and was a parishioner of Saint Patrick's Church in Lawrence, MA.
Rita worked as a Shoe Maker in the Shoe Mills and later worked for 15 years as a waitress for Butterfields Restaurant in Methuen, MA.
She was very involved in Foster Care and she dearly loved three generations of children.
She leaves her significant other of 27 years Norman F. Hutchins of Lawrence, MA.
her sisters: Evelyn Porter and Kathleen Porter both of Lawrence, MA.
her brothers: Donald Porter, Paul and his wife Marjorie Porter and Edward Porter all of Vermont. She is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her beloved cat Sofie.
Rita was predeceased by her sibilings Frederick, James and Mary.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call on Monday, June 23rd, 2014 from 11:00 to 1:00 at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA.
