Mildred L. Paoletti
6/18/2014

Mildred L. “Millie” (Clappison) Paoletti, 89, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away June 18, 2014 at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife for 21 years of the late Antonio J. Paoletti until his passing in 1973. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Gertrude Clappison. Raised and educated in Woburn, she recalled to her children that during her senior year, in the middle of the senior class play on December 7th, an announcement came over the loudspeaker, “We are at war!” Mrs. Paoletti remembered that everyone immediately made plans as to which branch of the services to join.

She worked in financial management at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston until she met and married her husband Antonio in 1952. They settled in Woburn and built a house on the land where she grew up, and raised their three children there.

Mrs. Paoletti worked at Winchester Hospital for many years until her retirement at age 65. Not to slow down, she then went to work for Dr. Radvany until age 70, and then on to Immaculate Conception Church, where she worked until age 80.

In her spare time, Millie taught CCD and led a Cub Scout Troop and a Girl Scout Troop, and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was the founder of the Ladies Sodality at Immaculate Conception Church, of which she was an officer for 25 years, and was a founder of the youth bowling league there. Millie was also a member and treasurer of the Winchester Seniors bowling league.

Millie enjoyed traveling and had visited Rome, Sicily, Alaska, Aruba and Puerto Rico, and loved to take annual trips to the islands.

She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Francestown, NH, which was built by her father. In 1956, Millie and Tony built their own cottage right beside it, and she loved to go to the cottage with her children and grandchildren and play cards and board games.

From time to time, Millie enjoyed taking bus trips to Foxwoods with the senior citizens. On a memorable trip, she hit a $142,000 jackpot on a “Betty Boop” slot machine. Her friends fondly remember her laughingly carrying a large fake check onto the bus for the ride home.

Millie was the loving mother of Anne L. Ring and her husband Richard T. of Stoneham, Paul E. Paoletti of Woburn and the late John L. Paoletti. She was also the dear grandmother of Michael, Jason, Lindsay, and Kelsey Ring, Matthew and Lisa Paoletti, and is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Monday, June 23 @ 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, MA 01890 at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be held at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 3-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church at the address listed above.
