Edmond Bandar
6/11/2014

Edmond Bichara Bandar, age 83, of Winchester, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on June 11, 2014. He was the beloved husband of 45 years of Souheila E. (Wakim) Bandar.

Born, raised and educated in Haifa, he was the son of the late Bichara and Eugenie (Hallaso) Bandar. At age 13, Ed and his two older brothers began working to help support their family. As a young man, he owned and ran a successful supermarket in Lebanon. It was in Lebanon that an American friend of his introduced him to Souheila, who would become the love of his life.

Because of the war, Ed’s family immigrated to the United States in 1976. He and his brothers ran a successful restaurant business, owning the Averof in Porter Square, Cambridge.

Mr. Bandar became interested in real estate, invested, and soon became a successful real estate developer for many years.

In his spare time, he loved to travel. His family recalled many cross-country driving trips, including fond memories of trips to California, Louisiana and Florida.

He and his wife also traveled across Europe, visiting Italy, France, Amsterdam, and also enjoyed many trips to the Caribbean. An avid card-player, he enjoyed playing Whist. Ed loved mathematics and had an uncanny ability to remember jokes and directions.

Mr. Bandar was a person who always made himself available to help other people. He was a loving husband and father, whose proud legacy will be his loving and devoted family. On his deathbed, he told his sons that he only cared about his wife, and, throughout his life, he often mentioned that the best thing he ever did was marry their mother.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bandar leaves behind his sons: Michael E. Bandar and his wife Oana,of Somerville, and Stephen E. Bandar and his wife Simeia, of Cambridge. He was also the dear brother of Therese Ashy of MD, Evelyne Samaha of CA, Raymond Bandar of Arlington, Simon Bandar of CA, Nadia Zaher of FL, Johnny Bandar of Stoneham, the late Mansour and Edward Bandar, and is further survived by a newborn granddaughter, Lily Catherine Bandar, and many nieces and nephews.
