Obituary

Augusta Bernice “Bernie” (Demb) Rosenthal, died on June 6, 2014 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in Chelsea, MA. Born in Chelsea on June 28, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Hyman & Minnie (Schlafman) Demb.
She graduated from Chelsea High School, attended Burdett Business School & then worked at the Suffolk Hardware Store owned by her father. After her marriage in 1939 she moved to Woburn, MA. She returned to Chelsea in the early 1970s where she lived independently until 2007 when she moved to the Cohen-Florence-Levine Estates & Florence and Chafetz Home for Specialized Care.
She was a member of Hadassah while living in Woburn, & was a life member & volunteer Dues Secretary of Na’amat for over 20 years where she received recognition for her service. She was also a life member of the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra Rosenthal of San Diego, CA & Marlene Rosenthal of New York City, son-in-law Eugene Reilly of New York City, nieces Marcia Steinberg of Sacramento, CA & Eleanor Koplow of Miramar, FL, nephews Barry Kirshon of Saugus, MA & Joel Steinberg of Burlingame, CA, eleven great nieces & nephews & many cherished cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham, in 1966, sister, Ruth Kirshon in 2008 & nephew Howard (Mike) Kirshon in 2011.
Services will be held at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue, Chelsea, MA 02150, Tuesday June 10 at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in the Woburn Jewish Center Cemetery in Woburn, MA. After the burial the family will gather at Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea, 60 Tudor Street in Chelsea from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. for a memorial observance. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Chelsea Jewish Foundation or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home for the dedicated care they provided to Bernie during her stay there.
