Obituary

John “Jack” Blackwell, 83 of Methuen passed away at the Holy Family Hospital on May 29, 2014. John was born in Lawrence to the late Edward and Florence (Sullivan) Blackwell on February 27, 1931. Jack was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1948. Following high school, Jack joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. During his time in the United States Army, Jack rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at the Lawrence Lodge. Jack was a die-hard sports fan; he was especially fond of the Boston Red Sox. He shared his passion for sports with the youth of Lawrence by coaching the South Lawrence West Little League team for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. He worked for Western Electric of North Andover for many years.

John was the beloved husband of the late Eunice (Bonin) Blackwell. He was the devoted father of Timothy Blackwell of Methuen, Daniel Blackwell and his wife Suzanne of Wilmington and William Blackwell and his wife Deborah of Haverhill. Jack was the dear brother of the late Edward Blackwell, the late Robert Blackwell, the late Joan Wall and the late Elizabeth Blackwell. He was the loving grandfather of Kelly, Brett, Drew and Thomas.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA. A funeral service will be held at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Dr. Suite 1150 Chicago, IL 60601. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Blackwell family.
