Obituary

Joseph “Joey” Truett born September 15, 1955 in Jacksonville Florida. Joe was a member of the North Jacksonville Baptist Church where he worked in the children ministries when his children were young. He was a Union Boilermaker, Local 199 and a member of the East Side Fishing Club.
He went to San Mateo Elementary, Oceanway Junior High and Andrew Jackson High School, through the 11th grade. His parents then moved to Callahan where he graduated from West Nassau High School and then joined the work force. He followed in his Dad’s footsteps as a union Boilermaker. Joe continued to surf, dive, hunt and fish.
Joe married in 1984 and had two beautiful daughters which were his heart! Joe loved his girls!!! In 1995 while traveling for a job, his life was forever changed. An auto accident left him paralyzed. While he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he did not stop doing the things he loved. His parents gave up everything to take care of him and meet his every need. Because of their completely sacrificial, unconditional love he was able to spend time with his daughters, go hunting and fishing again and be able to live in his own home.
On Sunday, May 25 his parents went to his home to find him on his front porch, slumped over in his wheelchair. He had been sitting there jamming to Classic Rock, and watching his birds and squirrels feed out in the front year. He had gone on, to be with the Lord. Please don’t morn for him…he is in Heaven and is walking around heaven visiting with all his loved ones who has passed before him.
Please do pray for his parents who have broken hearts beyond words and a void that will never be filled. And please do pray for his two daughters who will not see him again until they meet in heaven; and for his granddaughters who will never know what a loving man he was.
He leaves behind his daughters, Tricia (Daniel) Doyle of Orange Park, FL and Joanna Truett of Tampa; his parents James and Mae Truett of Callahan; a brother, James Truett, Jr of Yulee; a sister and brother in law, Beverly and Ray Scarbrough of Folkston, GA; two granddaughters, Katelyn and Addison; many aunts, uncles, cousins nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family burial estate at Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
