METHUEN - Helen Irene (Dmytrow) Borysek, 94 of Methuen passed away peacefully Wednesday May 14, 2014 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on April 18, 1920, the second daughter of the late John and Sophie (Halatka) Dmytrow who arrived in the United State from Austria and Ukraine in 1913.
Helen worked as a cook and nanny as a young girl for the Higgins Family of Andover and the Pacific Mills, before marrying Henry P. Borysek who owned Henry's Variety Store on Spruce St. in 1941. Henry went to God's home in 1991.
She spoke Ukranian, Russian and Polish and her hobbies included good old country cooking, sewing, gardening and espcially talking with her neighbors and friends.
Family members include as son, Thomas H. Borysek of Chicago, Illinois and her special nephew, Dickie Croteau of Lawrence. She was the aunt of Marlene Croteau of Lawrence, MA, Michelle, Sofia, Isabella, Olivia and Nina Tagliaferri of Haverhill, MA, Donna Shea of New Hampshire, Michael Grasso of New Hampshire, Thomas Grasso of Methuen, MA, Phyllis Grasso of Methuen, MA, Audrey Colson of Alabama, Stephanie Colson of California, Melanie Caspary of Springfield, IL, Mark Caspary of California, Janice Shafer of Virgina and Alan Shafer of New Hampshire. Helen was also the sister of the late Walter Dmytrow (1941), Ann Russo (2000), Olga Grasso (2009), John Dmytrow (2011 and Mary Hamel (2012)
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Xenia Church 170 North Lowell Street Methuen, MA 01844 or to St. Monica's Church 212 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Sunday 2:00p.m. - 4:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00a.m. in St. Monica's Church in Methuen, MA with burial to follow in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery also in Methuen.
