Obituary

NATICK: Stephen V. Fay, age 58, a Natick resident and well-known local craftsman, died on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham after suddenly falling ill at home. He was the devoted husband of
Diane S. “DeDe” (Della Torre) Fay for seventeen years.

Born, raised and educated in Natick, he was the son of R. Frances (Mailhiot) Fay of Natick and the late Richard D. Fay. Stephen established the Stephen V. Fay Company right after graduating from Natick High School. Always creative, he had found a love for working with copper and was able to translate that into a business.

Stephen worked with his father Richard for many years, installing cooper roofs, flashings, bars, and enhancing finish work. They eventually added slatework to their repertoire. Stephen is perhaps best known for his beautiful weathervanes, lamps, and lanterns. A homebody, Stephen enjoyed time spent with DeDe, and entertained himself with such projects as building a birchbark canoe and fashioning his own bows and arrows. His favorite pastime was fishing and he made several award winning copper lures over the years.

In addition to DeDe and his mother, he is survived by his sister, Diane Fay Markey and fiancé Edward Costa of Shrewsbury; two nieces and a nephew, Jennifer Markey and fiancé Mike Carreiro of Westborough; David Markey, and Laura Markey, both of Shrewsbury; parents-in-law John Vander Sande and Josephine Della Torre, and a large loving extended family.

His visiting hours will be held at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Thursday, May 8th 4 – 7p.m. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
