Jack Hensley, age 82, of Attleboro, formerly of Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline A. (Bernardo) Hensley, to whom he was wed for the past 25 years. He was also the husband of the late June Hensley.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 11, 1931 he was a loving son of the late Carl and Eloise (Glazner) Hensley.
Jack grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He was a graduate of Lubbock High School and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was stationed in Great Lakes Illinois, and was honorably discharged from the service on July 5, 1954.
Jack continued his education and was a graduate of the University of Texas where he received his Degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He later graduated from Stamford University, receiving his M.B.A. and Masters Degree, also in Civil Engineering.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Hensley had worked for over 10 years as a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department in Boston. He had previously been employed for the W Walsh Co. in Attleboro, served as a Civil Engineer for the Raymond Corporation, Dow Chemical, and Houston Construction. Mr. Hensley also served as CEO for Hensley Construction in Houston, Texas.
Jack had made his home in Attleboro for the past 25 years. He was a member of M.O.S.E.S. and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Jack had a lifelong love for sports and the great outdoors. He possessed strong athletic skills, and while in college had played football for the University of Texas, and also while serving in the United States Navy.
In addition to football, he enjoyed all sports from college to national levels. Jack also had a passion for golf and was a member of the National Golf Association. His other interests included skiing and photography.
Prior to graduating from high school, Jack was very proud to be a Boy Scout and of achieving scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
Along with his wife Jackie, he also enjoyed traveling, and will always be remembered for his kind and gentle manner, and most of all for his true “Southern Charm and Hospitality”
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children; Laura Matkin of Texas, Dr Charles Hensley of Texas, Jennifer Tausek of Orleans, Jason Tausek of Attleboro and the late Brent Hensley. He was the adoring grandfather of Mathew Hensley and his wife Chastity, Lauren Hensley and her husband Brad, and Jacklyn Wisner and her husband Steven. He is also survived by his cherished 3 great grandchildren, his dear in-laws; Angie Alexander, Hilda Jackson, Celeste Jones, and John Bernardo and his wife Joyce, and several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, April 27th from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at a later date in Texas.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hensley’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the charity of ones choice.
