Helen F. (Cook) Grace, age 86 of Provincetown died on April 22, 2014 at Cape Cod Hospital after a period of failing health. Mrs. Grace was the wife of the late John Grace. Born in Provincetown and a lifelong Provincetown resident, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Nellie (Smith) Cook. For the past 23 years Helen’s health has been compromised as the result of a stroke.
When she was in her 30s she worked at the Wellfleet Candle Factory. For most of her life she worked as a waitress. With her husband John, she co-owned John’s Footlong, a well established restaurant in Provincetown.
For many years she was active in the local bowling league. In her youth one of her favorite pastimes was going dancing with her friends. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family and for her work ethic. In her younger years she was motivated by two important goals, to provide her beloved son with a loving family and a strong education.
She is survived by her son Edward G. Boxer of Eastham and his wife Marie, her 3 grandchildren, John Boxer and his wife Carrie of Philadelphia, PA, Edward Boxer and his wife Chantal of Boston and Allison Boxer Nadeau and her husband Asa of Orleans, her 5 great grandchildren, her two brothers, James Cook of Florida and Chester Cook of Provincetown and her sisters Beverly Ferreira of Provincetown and Antoinette Little of Colorado and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eva Carreiro and Yvonne Souza.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church 11 Prince St. Provincetown on Saturday May 3, 2014 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited. There are no visiting hours.
