Obituary

Robert D. Richer, 92, of Logee St., Woonsocket died Wednesday at Landmark Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Gloria L. (Laurence) Richer. They were married on November 29, 1947.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Donat and Lucia B. (Roy) Richer. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Richer was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII in the European Theater. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the European-African-Middle-EasternTheater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal.
Bob operated his own bakery distribution business servicing the region for many decades before retiring.
Bob was a member of Club Marquette and enjoyed traveling. A self-educated man, he had a variety of interests including history and geography. Bob was a voracious reader, was well-versed on many topics and was known for calling the local radio talk shows to share his opinions on local and wider current events.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, and devoted father and grandfather. He was a great historian and storyteller. Bob was charismatic, engaging and extremely funny.
In addition to his wife of over 66 years, he is survived by three sons: Robert A. Richer and his wife, Carole, of Charlestown, RI, Charles E. Richer and his wife, Sharon, of Hanahan, South Carolina, and Steven M. Richer and his wife, Lynda, of Woonsocket; four daughters: Denise M. Richer of Williamstown, MA, Louise Richer of Wakefield, RI, Paula J. Richer of Los Angeles, CA and Laurie-Ann Krinsky and her husband, Paul, of Manhattan Beach, CA. He was the brother of Gerald Richer, Muriel Cote, Jeanne Morin, Vivian Ayotte and the late Roger, Raymond and Estelle Richer. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, West Wrentham Rd, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8 pm.
