Maria Sylvia (Giardiello) Palumbo, 81, of Franklin passed away on April 15 in Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of Albert P. Palumbo for the past 46 years.
Born in Boston’s North End, April 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Aristotile and Maria (Petrosino) Giardiello, Mrs. Palumbo was raised and lived in the North End before moving to Franklin.
She was a 1954 graduate of the Carney School of Nursing in Boston. A Registered Nurse she had been employed at Boston City Hospital and also for the New England Gas Company.
Mrs. Palumbo was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Family and friends were important to Maria and she regularly attended the Franklin Senior Center to play bingo.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Victoria Caezza and her husband John A. of Milford, Joan Szemethy and her husband Louis of Hopedale, Jeanne Klipple and her husband Dale of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, David Palumbo and Paul Palumbo of Franklin.
She was the youngest sister of Albina “Tina” Giardiello of Boston, Prisco F. Giardiello of Hanover.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Savannah, Rachel and Sarah Szemethy of Hopedale, and Sean and Matthew Klipple of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street Franklin at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
