Obituary

Harriet Isabelle Hussey Imlay passed away peacefully at 2:30 PM, 13 April 2014 at the home of her daughter, Judith Cox, in Cross Junction, VA. She was under the very capable hands of Blue Ridge Hospice and immediate family members. All three of her children were together and with her on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 and 9 April while she could still communicate reasonably well. Harriet was born December 1, 1917 to Edward Hugh Hussey of Morden, NS, Canada & Mary Isabelle Bailey of Haverhill, MA at Nutfield Farm, Londonderry, NH, a colonial tavern. Edward bought, Nutfield Farm, from Deacon Day on the Mammoth Road between the capitals at Boston, MA and Concord, NH. Harriet was named after Harriet Mack of the Mack Apple Farm. Isabelle and Edward met at the Mack farm where Ed was a helper and Isabelle boarded while teaching school. Harriet started school at age 4 to meet the required, 8 student minimum, to open the one room school (now a private home). She graduated from Pinkerton Academy, Londonderry. On 28 June 1935 she married Frederick Horace Imlay who was born in Haverhill, MA. Harriet and Fred were married for 73 years when he passed away at 101 on 26 Jan 2010. They lived in Hampton, Virginia for 12 years and then Bethesda (Chevy Chase), MD until 2010, with 2 years in Germany. Harriet lived with her daughter Judith Cox (Blane Cox) from Jan 2010 to the time of her passing at age 96.
Cooking, family and foreign dishes, learning languages, singing, fostering a love of flowers, trees, and birds, gave her pleasure. Pleasing and uplifting family and friends consumed her life.
